Spotted this and thought I would point it out to everyone.
The 'true' friends of Fort Knox
By Michael Celli
BUCKSPORT (Nov 9): It is hard for most politicians to admit that they have made a mistake. In reading the mailings from the four-member executive committee of the Friends of Fort Knox, three of whom are active politicians, it is apparent that this leadership cannot admit that it has made a mistake, and cannot change course. When the board demanded Leon Seymour’s resignation, it announced to the press that Leon had done a wonderful job. Only after 60 Friends members demanded that Leon be reinstated did the board concoct alleged performance problems.
When it was critical to sales at the gift shop to acquire inventory and not wait for John Hyk to get around to signing a check, Leon used a debit card. The inventory he purchased with the debit card had long ago been approved in the board’s budget, and this was no different than paying weekly payroll, which expenses had also been approved long ago. Since payroll didn’t require Hyk’s signature, there is no reason that purchase of already approved inventory should have required Hyk’s signature.

User Pictures
I've increased the possible size of the user pictures from 65 pixels square to 85 pixels square.
I have adjusted and uploaded several of the pictures I have helped some users with recently. If you want help or have a picture you would like to use but are not sure what to do then please attach the photo to an email and send it to me. I'd be happy to crop it, size it and upload it.
For those that want to try it on your own then consider these ideas.
- Crop your digital image to be tight on your head and shoulders. Your nose should be just about on center.
- Crop your image to be square. Most applications allow you to force square by holding down the shift key while dragging your crop tool.
- After you are satisfied with your trim selection then adjust the size of your photo to be 85 pixels by 85 pixels.

Favorite Movie Lines
In the spirit of Civil War Jokes I was wondering how far this would lead us. One of my favorite lines from a movie comes from Monty Python's The Holy Grail - something like
"Help!!! Help!!! I'm being repressed. Come see the violence inherited in the system!!!!"
Anybody else got one??

Maine Militia in the newsletter. . .
I just wondered if this website is in the Third Maine's newsletter. I think it would make the site much more popular and I think the company would be more. . . United. . . and more like a weathed unit that has been together through everything possible. It might make newcomers feel more welcome in the unit. Also, seeing as we never see each other in the winter, it would be a good chance to catch up on things with everyone in the unit. I don't remember ever seeing this website in it but I think it would be a pretty good idea.
Fort Knox Letters
I've decided that the following letters may be important for some folks who want to know what is going on with the Fort. I have put these here because it is really now just a side issue and not really related to Civil War.....well, not the Civil War we are interested in.

IM, Chat and Confrences Oh My!
I'm looking for some thoughts and feedback regarding online chat. The ChatBox has been loaded and running on here for a few months now. On a few occassions, some of us have congregated there and socialized. The ChatBox works marginally well but is a bit clunky and featureless.
I've been looking for something a bit better but without spending money that doesn't seem possible. There are a few but they run ads to support the 'free' service. I dislike ads so much, but they seem difficult to avoid these days.

Comment adjustment
Well, I'm at it again! Yup, the slow season is starting and I'm tinkering! :)
Not really, but I know you will notice so I thought I would post that I've changed the way the comment tools appear.
The Comment Viewing Options were appearing at both the top and the bottom of the comments. Now they are just at the bottom. I found the ones at the top annoying.
I changed from 10 comments per page to 30. This may slow down the page load slightly for those on dial-up. If it's too slow then please let me know.
Ghosts of Gettysburg Vols 1-5 by Mark Nesbitt
Anybody read any of these? I saw them in a gift shop when we were at G'burg and they sort of piqued my interest. The local library doesn't have it, and I don't really want to buy them, but before I go to the trouble of trying to get them through inter-library loan, I just wondered if they're worth the read?
So, has anybody read them, and what did you think?
Thanks, Joe.
