The following link is truly amazing and must be seen to fully understand. But Mannie Gentile, a National Park Service interpretive ranger, has a series of photos narrated by quotes from famous authors of the various stages of the battle for the Sunken Road at Antietam, September 17, 1862. The interesting thing is it's all in miniature, using toy soldiers, and a bare space in the back yard.
