I knew this day was coming. Here is a story on old Gettysburg electric light map to be turned out forever.
With the opening of a new museum and visitor center that offers a bigger "wow" factor for the park's nearly 2 million visitors each year, the National Park Service has decided that its 1960s-era electric battlefield map is obsolete.
We have all seen it I'm sure. I've seen it at least twice. In my opinion seeing the Gettysburg electric light map gave me my first real understanding of the scope of the battle in a way I had not fully comprehended before.
I have not visited the new museum yet. I hope there is something that demonstrates the scale of battle as well as the old electric light map did.
But I'm not sure I would bother saving the old map. Is it historical on it's own? Should it be preserved? Should it be saved?
What do you think?
