Apparently a fire last night at the Norlands Living History Center destroyed the barn. Firefighters were able to save the mansion. The Trustees of the center have vowed to rebuild structures that were destroyed by a fire.

If anyone goes by and takes some pictures then I would be happy to post them here for others to see. Also, if anyone hears news on the plans to rebuild then please post them. It would be fun to be involved if they will be looking for help with a good ole' fashion barn raising.

Its sad to see any old barn
Its sad to see any old barn collapse due to snow, or be destroyed by fire. they have stood for years providing shelter for the animals and fodder for the farms that would feed the families that lived there plus feed the people of our state and sometimes the world. I see so many farms now that are vacant, run down and neglected, some are still operating but have not the money to really maintain them.
It is especialy sad to see the Norlands barn go up in flames....Mucho kudos to the Firedept to have saved the house. Aparently they have trained for just this sort of event so they knew what to do before they even got to the scene.
But this might be a blessing in disguise for the Norlands, as now their plight takes more of a front page to the state. Maybe now with a drive that is sure to come to rebuild the barn, they might get even more support from the people who heretofore have been dormant when the Norlands hit the financial wall so to speak.
Lets hope for a good outcome......
