once again I ask.....where are all the people?

I am a creature of habit, every morning I get up go to the Bathroom let out the dog, make coffee, let the dog in, get on the computer check e-mail, go get my cup of coffee then the maine militia page..I now have added a few more steps after like civil war interactive, the !5ths website to check the counter and guestbook. one or two of our members have blogs and I lament the fact I havent posted on my blog "the working poor republican" in months...after which I get ready for work and go......
I have noticed in the past few days we have gotten a few new members, but no postings. no replys or otherwise.....To them I say Dont be shy!
Mike HAs put a lot of work into this, I being one who is not computer comfortable despite it being in my peer age, things like pod casts and blogs and you tube are a fanciful lot, that you must only be able to access if you have a CRAY in your basement..I my self am on dialup and am happy most days to have phone service...So what I invision for mike must be hours and hours of mind rending work on the computer might be not much more than point and click....But I digress
Anyway the site is here and with all the reenactors in this state I would think someone besides the usual suspects would have something to say. to this Day I have gotten no feedback on Civil War toiletries for men!( this is Fop! I am a dapper dan man....)
or when did galvanized tin appear? (my wife has a big washtub only its galvanized) and can you paint it to look period? what if you used gun bluing? stuff like that.
And Ive got 25 feet of snow outside my window and Ive had it! I would love to see some grass. I have two cars and my trailer buried under all this white crap........and for one reason or another I did very little snowshoeing so I wasent out like I would like to be...so basically its been a long hard winter. I have cabin Fever....so there must be others out there..........

I will now admit that I am

I will now admit that I am one of the members you speak of. I am also a creature of habbit and visit the site each day after checking my e-mails at work, but seldom post anything. As one of those sliderule/calculator professionals, my typing and spelling skills are not what you would call even marginal. It is sometimes difficult to post a message even if I may have a comment.
I would like to say that I do enjoy the site very much and the cast of characters and opinions can be compared to a Broadway play at times. I think this is what makes the site interesting and keeps me checking back.
Mr. Seamus's posts can be very interesting at times and for a long time I was very curious as to what this guy was really like. Well I had the pleasure of falling into line with him a few times last summer and I will have to say he is a crazy as he appears on this site. I had a great time with all of the 15th Alabama members and you would not find a better bunch of people. However, I did get shot as a traitor later in the day
for abandoning my Union group.

Hopefully I will have something more thought provoking in the future to post and would encourage others, like myself, to do the same.

shot as a traitor?

Ok, this concerns me a tad since I am a member of both a union and rebel troop...both of which will be at Gettysburg. My intent is to "slip across the lines" and spend time at both camps....

Will I be arrested? shot? ...stayed tune !

I'm still out here...

...lurking in the shadows...watching...reading....
Thanks for dropping by last week Seamus to make sure I was still among the living. Some day this Border Ruffian will get back into the bushwhacking business and start giving the Yankees whut fer....I really do miss the good old days!

In the mean time...between driving between Rumford and Lisbon Falls every day, I'll check in from time to time and see if there's a good verbal shootin' match going on here and I'll lob a few pot shots in just to stir up the bees a bit. I've mellowed a bit in my old age, but I'm sure if the right conversation gets started, I'll have poor old Mike Johnson sweating and cursing me again! How have you been Mike? Haven't see you in a while either!

"I am a border-ruffian from the State of Missouri. I am a Maine Yankee by adoption. In me you have Missouri morals and Maine culture; this, my friends, is the combination which makes the perfect man." (A shameless misquote from the great Sam Clemens...

Dying hobby?

Hardly!!!! Just having a slow period. Even I am in the slump with CW. The 145th Gettysburg is this year and I am actually reconsidering not going!!!! I will be Idaho the weekend before and there is the South Dakota State Championship (CFDA) the same weekend. "What's a gunfighter to do!"

Hopefully every thing will pick up in a year or two when the 150th battles begin. I do have some Fort Knox encampments set up. July 18-20 and August 29-31. The fort is looking for more Federals but we can mix it if we at least have the number for the cannon crew.

As far as the message board goes. There appears to be more idle rambling going on than actual informational stuff. (I myself am guilty of it) I am going to admit, in the past two years I have seen the hobby take a turn for farbism (or is farbbism?) Larger organizations wanting more troops at the expense of authenic uniforms and parts. A whole lot of tolerance for stupid crap that you wouldn['t have (or rarely had) seen on the fields. Individuals who get bent all out of shape when you enforce guidelines and so they join a group who will allow them to use their farb unauthenic gear and you end up losing the battle anyway.

Then you have the folks who fight for the Confederacy despite their believe that the South was in the wrong. OR they just want to do the Confederate impression because they don't want to look like everyone else in uniform. Or they believe the war was about slavery......"BOY is my BLOOD beginning to BOIL!!!! Wish the war was still going on so I could legally shoot these people!!!! (Just kidding lol) Point being...the hobby really has changed and it has sooooooooo much PC in it, it's hardly as enjoyable as it once was.

Hope this all changes by the 150th but I know better.

Short thought

I'm traveling today and will just post a quick thought.

I love this question and will post more. This site averages over 1000 unique visitors a month. Even if we cut that in half to account for individuals visiting from work and home and search engines and such then who are the 400 or 500 people passing through MaineMilitia.com every month?

I've been posting interesting things I find. But being outside the hobby at the moment don't have much else to say. Would love to see others posting some events and more of what's coming up!

I'll catch up on Monday when back home in Maine! Happy Easter everyone.
