My wife would like to start making a few items for both civilians and soldiers, i.e. aprons and shirts, but she has a few questions about materias she should use. Any help would be appreciated.

Fanny and Vera's
Hey Dick,
Great hearing from you. I'm not much of an expert and I'm sure someone who is more eloquent with these things will show up to help. But a great resource for a lot of questions surrounding this is Fanny & Vera's:

Also, you could wander the websites of the better sutlers and see what they use and describe in their items.

Will she be hand sewing, or
Will she be hand sewing, or using the infernal machine?
I care not which, As I myself some years back bought a sewing machine of a heavy duty nature and so far have gotten nowhere with it....So I am greatly impressed with anyone who gets father than I do.........
Truth is that in 20years of marriage we have so much damn stuff that I dont really have the room for the machine to be worked on.....it sits in the corner of the living room on its table where the cats sleep on top or hide under the table.
