CFDA State Championship

capt cotton's picture

We will be holding the first State Championship pending at Fort Knox May 24-25. If interested, you should read the rules at www.cowboyfastdraw.com or talk with me. BUT....the real reason I write was to see if anyone was interested in the cap and ball catagory? We are going to have a shoot using the walker revolvers. If we get enough folks we would probably offer a prize. Right now there are only two of us involved and would like to see more try it out. This will probably take place on Saturday.

Otherwise, we are sort of suffering from lack of funds and logistics waiting for State approval. If the site falls through we are going to have scramble to find another site. We have several in mind but they are not as public as we would like. Open to serious ideas and opinions. This is a little different from raising funds for a Civil War event.

I just clicked on the web

I just clicked on the web link and it took me to the council of fashion designers of america....Im not sure if that is correct unless they now have a firearms catagory?
But I may be looking for a nice velvet and sequin frock coat for those really FABULOUS reenactments!
hope this is really a cowboy action shoot thing...

Nothing like the movies

Yup, I've never seen cowboys like that at the movies! :)

The closest I can come up with is:
http://www.cowboyfastdraw.com/events.php

But I'm sure Will can correct us when next he passes by.

Sorry

I seem to have given the Cowboy Fast Draw site for Brokeback Mountain! I don't know when the site changed but it had to be recent. The organization was sold this year to another party and they probably lost their domain in the process. Hard to tell but now I have to update it on all my handouts.

Ironically, after I posted I was contacted by a guy who would like to use his Ruger Old Armys. So there seems to be some interest.

It happens

It's crazy how some domain names change hands.

Create new Content as Event Will so this will show up in the calendar here.

I'm not equipped to shoot or participate but I'd like to come up and check this out.

Frock Coats

I think the velvet would benefit from a little tulle and lace too!
And feathers in your hat...big ones LOL

site cancelled

Sadly but not totally unexpectedly the State turned down the event. It rested on the Director of the Bureau of Parks and lands to make a decision. He didn't feel it was a good idea in the interest of public safety, of course they would like to see a demostration. So maybe next year.

Right now we are mist of searching for another site with two months to go and another $2000 to raise. YEAH! We actually have two backup sites and two high probability sites. We are searching for a site in either Brewer or Bangor where more people can come out to watch. We don't charge to watch but where there is more people there is more $$$$$$$$$$ to be made. More to come as it develops.

Most times when Govt is

Most times when Govt is involved they can be real pains...even the best explanation goes upon deaf ears....despite tales of targets wax bullets and timers you know someone was thinking two guys dressed as cowboys would be shooting at each other from 25 paces.....Sometimes (more often than not) I wish we could go back to the days of little to no regulation, no Seat belt law, no "no smoking in the bar " law and bring on the Fireworks! Literally, I want to go down to a store on the corner and buy some bottle rockets...which in some states that sell fire works have outlawed bottle rockets because of their simple minded dangerousness More eyes get put out....but you can still buy the mortar tube!
anyhow I digress, good luck on finding a site....a good gravel pit would be nice except the sides might collapse!
