Here have news that the 145th Gettysburg will be held July 4th-8th. No other details at this time. Will assume it will be held near Gettysburg itself.

I plan to be there, already have reservations at a campground on the nights I wont be in a canvas tent...
I admit it, I like RV life better then Tent life LOL
deb
in the liberty Greys there
in the liberty Greys there is a family that had a small period looking house on wheels built that they can haul from event to event....some like it some dont it gets set up in the civilian camp and then the wheels on the side are either pulled in or hidden by a fake fence....they have a few kids and seems to work for them. I dont know how the big event people would look upon that sort of thing but if we could just get a pulled in Church and saloon we really could have what looks like a town for civil war munchkins.
we are the members of the Irish brigade, the irish brigade, the Irish brigade....we are the members of the IRISH BRIGADDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! and wish to welcome you to munchkin landdddddd......

145th Gettysburg
It looks like a great event. I went on the website and looked at the info. I will try and make it down. I have my lincense now so I should be able to drive. School is out then so I don't have to worry about that.
I may do some sight-seeing again if I go. I went in July of 2003 and it was the most spectacular place I have ever seen.
I hope I get to go. That would be the first real large reenactment I've been to (the first one was at Borderlands in June 2007- that was fun too). I would also like to see the sutlers and many units there as well.

Too many things Miss
Too many things Miss Deb....Too many. just have to keep sorting out the voices and listen to the good ones only....
To the young lad from the 3rd...Sutlers up the wazoo...thats why when I go to sutlers row I take not the coinage (ofetn dont have the coinage anyway) so I am not tempted by those demon sutlers, to spend my hard won pay that needs to go home to the starving wife and kid....
but now that I have been to several of the big events I find that the mid range regional events are more to my liking with a smaller cast of charcters and a more mom and pop variety of sutlers......

My Vote
Something about 10-15000 people does not appeal to me.
My vote is for: http://www.wmhf.org/athightide/
Now, if my other commitments for that weekend have got to be worked around...

Marc,
The Third Maine when to this groups Antietam event. It was my first large scale event but I thought it was well done. My only complaints:
1. Cars parked near the camp site/suttlers. Parking was not well enforced.
2. The website listed that the stitch counters would be out enforcing dress etc. They specifically listed certain items were forbidden yet they never enforced it!
As a spectator, the battles I saw were awesome but you would have to ask "the boys" about what they thought...
Deb
good and bad
Marc,
It's a great sells pitch and every old school (and wantabe's) dream event. Ms. Deb is probably correct with how the event will go. I have yet to see an event enforce rules. One thing goes and another slides. Personally I like the larger scale Gettysburg but must admit that this one sounds appealling.
To the end, what they are doing is splitting the community a part. In looking at the guy's (Anders) photo, he doesn't fit the role of a General officer. Very few dressed like that (even our own organization can do better) in fact Gen. Lee would not have allowed it.
I am fair game for either event though, there are pros and cons to both.

Well at least they arent
Well at least they arent doing it on the same weekend. but still goes down as that the hobby isnt dying just metamotphing into something different. there are quite a few events in the south that do have "authenticity standards" and are smaller events, so it goes down do you wnat a big event or a authentic event...I didnt see what is the cap for registrations? The minute I see a cap on an event I might have to drive ten hours to go to,that caps at less than 2000 total, I save my gas.Call me a philistine but I want spectacle for a ten hour drive..
