The Bowdoin Orient, the student newspaper at Bowdoin College, has an article this week discussing Jefferson Davis' honorary degree.

Jefferson Davis received a honorary degree (LL.D.) from Bowdoin during graduation exercises on August 5, 1858. His visit was on the recommendation of his doctor who "prescribed a brisk Maine summer to improve Davis's deteriorating health".

The article is worth a quick read. Enjoy!

Bowdoin Article

Very interesting article. I have heard something about Davis receiving a degree from Bowdoin, but I never knew the whole story. Thanks for sharing, Mr. Johson.
If you have any more info on Davis at Bowdoin or any other little known facts about the college during the War, please let me know. That is my first college of choice in a year when I get out of high school.
