Pierce Creek, NY

Andy Danish's picture

An invitaion to join us at Pierce Creek, NY August 8,9 & 10, 2008.
If this works out as planned, we may have a good sized event in the northeast again.
We're hoping to have 10 to 12 sailors in attendance from my unit alone.

*****
Nothing in recent times has stirred up more excitement amongst our CW reenactment family than the prospect of having an operating USN Steam Launch on "Lake Pierce" during Pierce Creek 2008. Most excited of all, believe it or not, was Wayne Nalls of the 1st Virginia (Mounted) Cavalry who called me from Virginia upon hearing the Navy rumor and was bubbling with excitement over the prospect. By putting together Navy, Mounted Cav, Infantry, Artillery, and all the rest in a single reenactment (battle) we have inadvertently created one of the most interesting and diverse events in the Northeast, bar none.
I've been reading the history of the 1st Virginia Cavalry, and note that on or about July 8, 1862, Fitz Lee marched the 1st Virginia to within six miles of Charles City Court House, and was subsequently shelled by Union gunboats. They were forced to withdraw, fortunately without any loss from the encounter.

****
Note: we have now set the date(s) for August 8-10, 2008. Mark your calendars!
