Gold from seawater

I had never heard this story before. But it's an enjoyable tale.

The Gold Rush in the Sea from the website The Cherry Creek News.

vaguely remember

Mike, I vaguely remember the tale in my history class. One of the project I worked on for a Professor was to read the Maine Mining Journal for the 1880's. Among the interesting things I recall was somebody getting shot in a bar, (western style) and a huge nugget being found by a farmer in Pembroke. The big mining operations of the era was Silver. There are many in the Hampden area but no signs of silver being found. The mining journal kept estimating that they would probably strike silver in another #feet.

There is an old gold mine in the Enfield area

There is an old gold mine in the Enfield area that I went to once as a kid. I did find some rocks that appeared to have gold flecks in it. I don't know if it was iron pyrite (fools gold) or not. If it was actually gold it would have been too costly to recover it and I can see why the mine was not continued.
