What if: Marie Antoinette's Refuge in Maine

Okay all you "What if" fictional writers!

What if Marie Antoinette was not executed and escaped to Maine to live out her years. There is a little tidbit discussing the history behind this at All Things Maine blog.

Apparently this all goes back to an 1893 speech before the Maine Historical Society.

When did the migration of Acadians south end? I know it started in the 1760. Would Marie Antoinette's presence have caused a different migration to Maine of new immigrants? Or would she had gone one to Louisiana as well? And what would the future relations between France and The United States have been?

Most of you know I'm not much of a "what if" fan. But, I've asked for it so let me have it!

I read some of the history on the site, but ran out of time, but I will say this. I doubt there would be major global reprucussions from this, but some local ones maybe as a small to medium amount of royal fortune might find its way to the local coffers in trade and business but on the whole deposed royality often end their lives in relative obscurity, sometimes paupers having not being able to live as a commoner does.
but I will have to think on this some more when the time allows......
