'Hybrid mutant' found dead in Maine
August 16, 2006
TURNER, Maine --Residents are wondering if an animal found dead over the weekend may be the mysterious creature that has mauled dogs, frightened residents and been the subject of local legend for half a generation.
The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat. The carcass was photographed and inspected by several people who live in the area, but nobody is sure exactly what it is.
So Craig, or Jason, have you guys seen this thing? Weird weird wierd...

There has been a few!
This is the second animal that could not be readily identified in five years that I know about. I am appalled that proper authorities did not respond! May if they did the driver could have been charged with killing an endangered specis. lol
The animal was in the South Paris area about 5 years ago.
Sounds like someone should call "After Dark" or "Coast to Coast"

no seriously. (if thats possible)
looking briefly at the pictures on the telly the snout looked porcine and they talk of curved fangs could Maine now be home to some kind of Wild boar/ferral pig? or are we going to go with the wolf/dog hybrid? I know each has different tracks but no tracks have been mentioned in the stories....Much ado about nothing as we do live in a very rural state, now if we suddenly have roving bands of orcs along with a dragon or two them its time to panic.......
Wild boar just gives us yet another menu item.....
##### I have just seen better pictures and its just a wild dog.....########

Not to be coy...but...
Having given this much thought and consideration over a few beers, my wife and I have opined that perhaps this could be a koi-woodchuck hybrid. If that is the case, we should all fall to our knees and give thanks to the Great State of Maine and our fearless leaders that they removed those potentially dangerous koi-beasts from that restaurant in Freeport. To think, he imported these wild animals 15 years ago and didn't think that, a few years later, Maine would require permits and therefore, he would become a dangerous koi-breeding criminal. NOW...it appears that perhaps one may have gotten flushed, popped out somewhere along our riverbanks, formed an unholy romantic union with a woodchuck (an equally despicable and miseraable beast with spawn of satan written all over its cute chubby garden eating body...) and begat the horrible Turner-Dog-Beast.
I say, pan fry the koi, pass another beer, and thank god such convoluted bureaucracies exist to keep us taxpayers safe.
Now...how do we go about regulating those miserable woodchucks????

Funny you should mention koi...
WGAN 560 AM Radio one morning last week was making that same joke. I think it was Friday but it might have been Thursday.
On a more scientific note, here are some interesting links for those that may not be following this as close as Mike, Rod and myself. :)

I buy the akita arguement. Maybe it's just a dog after all. :)

That's one UGLY dog...
...but I'm sure that's all it is...just a butt ugly feral dog of some mixed breed. But we love a good mystery. This is Stephen King Country after all!
(maybe he's working on a new book and this was his research...)
