Friends,
This is your opportunity for Civilians, Field Music, Infantry, Medical, ... ALL reenacters to support a great program headed by a very committed teacher George Chimenti who knows the value of hands-on living history. This is a wonderful program which the Third Maine and 15th Ala have participate in for the last six years (?). Please, if you are available, come and enjoy the excitement of sparking a student's imagination. Help us to hook them on their history.
Thanks,
Craig

FYI, An Email from Mt Blue MS
Greetings 3rd Maine and other friends of Mt. Blue
Middle School:
We are eagerly preparing for our April 26 Civil
War Day and look forward to participating in another
great living history experience with all of you. Rain
or shine we will be ready. Our group of student
sergeants have been selected and are working on their
muskets this week. Doug Tucker has again volunteered
to work on a manual of arms with our students
beforehand. A new activity that the sergeants will
participate in is a bivouac behind MBMS the night
before Civil War Day. The students will stay
overnight in four Civil War era tents that they have
put together from kits we purchased several years ago.
Two of our teachers, Greg Trefethen and Carroll Bond,
began this two years ago with a group of students and
it was a great success. Our Family and Consumer
Science teacher, Betsy Brady, is again organizing our
students and volunteers in preparing the Civil War era
meal for presenters (reenacters) and staff. A menu of
homemade chowders, stew, breads, and pies is being
planned. Our cafeteria staff is getting into the
theme of the day as well this year by preparing an era
appropriate lunch for our seventh graders.
Chorus, orchestra, and P.E. will have
representation this year, our teachers are working
with groups of student volunteers. The fiddlers will
do a presentation to accompany our contra dance
performance led by the P.E. staff. The social studies
teachers are working out logistics and organizing the
station times and rotation of presenters. Several new
stations we are adding this year are interactive games
of the time period, women roles in the Civil War, and
a communications station featuring the telegraph and
Morse Code. We also will feature local artifacts and
student projects. Much of our staff has offered to
participate and help out in any way they can. We have
two canopies which will be available for outdoor
stations if needed.
We look forward to as many reenactor presenters
that would like to come to Mt. Blue Middle School on
the 26th and we will prepare accordingly. Questions
or confirmations can go through Craig Young, Email
cayoung1952@yahoo.com, who has been such a valuable
resource to MBMS or with me George Chimenti at my
e-mail gmidchi@tds.net or feel free to call me between
5 and 8 p.m. any night at 628-5310.
Thanks and best to all,
Teacher George Chimenti
Mt. Blue Middle School
