I've already shared this with some of you.
For the second time in the 15th Alabama's history it made history at Gettysburg, though this time not at Little Round Top.
A photo from the 140th anniversary reenactment in Gettysburg in 2003 made the associated press and now it is rare to type anything Confederate into the Google search engine image search and not come across Corporal Tom Bassford planting the colors of the 15th over the stonewall during the reenactment of Pickett's Charge.
I think I shared this with you last year. The photo was shared on CNN Headline News during a story of some Civil War artifacts discovered in an attic.
For example if you go to google.com and click on images and type in Confederate charge you will see the photo twice on the first page. One link you will find this photo on is for the Honolulu News site!
The flag of the 15th that Tom drove into the Union lines was actually from Gettysburg.
In 2000 I met a living history actor named Lee Hamings who lives in Gettysburg. He portrays General Isaac Tremble, who once was a general officer of the 15th during Jackson's valley campaign. Lee and I became friends during my spring break vacation to Gettysburg in 2000 and a month later he sent me the hand sewn flag, a reproduction of the original 15th's colors. I then shared it with the 15th and is now being taken well care of by Corporal Bassford.
Goes to show you never know when you might appear in a Honolulu news! http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2005/Sep/11/il/FP509110319.html
