For those who asked about the corn bread I made foro the 2nd KC heres the recipie..
.5 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup Flour
pinch of salt
2Tablespoons milk
3Tablespoons butter sofened
4 eggs
mix togeather
Pour into 9x9 inch baking pan greased
bake for 15-20 minutes in a 375 degree oven...
its authentic but bland, doesnt crumble but more palateable than hardtack.....add sugar if you want it to "taste better"
Seamus

Bless you
I actually thought they were tasty. I liked the firmness and might try them in a haversack sometime. I would also be interested in trying this recipe in the field sometime. Meaning, I had foraged for the ingediants and was cooking them up for travel. I think I could do this over an open fire with a fry pan and use a tin plate as a cover for an impromptu dutch oven.
Delicate balance with the heat I know, but on the march that is probably how it would have been done.
Anyone have any evidence to support such an attempt?

For Shame
SHAME SHAME SEAMUS!
You of all people having lived in Georgia, Telling yankees to put sugar in their cornbread! Next thing you'll be having them mix their Jack Daniel's with diet Moxie! I've started a crusade with the Cracker Barrel in Tewksbury, Mass. to stop the blasphemy. Their "cornbread"is more like pound cake! Nothin but Martha White's cornmeal with hotrise, one egg, cup of buttermilk and lard will render up that good ol'pone of cornbread.

I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry to have to inflict this horrible image on you fellow Guinness drinkers but I can't live with this horror alone any more...My boss mixes Guinness and Moxie, half and half...no, really. He says it's great but I've never been able to stop weeping at the desecration long enough to try it...
Keep taking your blue mass (with Moxie)!!

Sweet cornbread...
Sorry fellas, I like my cornbread like I like my men, sweet and flaky! Just like Seamus!
Actually.. I love the texture of Seamus' cornbread, but I do prefer it with some sugar in it, especially if I'm out of molasses to dip it in!
