Thank you Mr. And Mrs. Pratt for hosting a fine Kitchen Conference on Saturday, February 18th! The attendance was 12. The conversations were excellant!

Steve walked us through some fine examples from "Echoes of Glory" and explained some uniform insignia questions.

We started into the discussion of military etiquette but focused on the issues of reenactors and how we use or don't use military etiquette. The 'famous flag incident' from last year was recited by Seamus!

Somehow, we returned from a brief break to find a hard discussion taking place around the use of a modern medicinal aid being used to extreme results by a high schooler.

It's unfortunate that this was followed by Miss Patties discussion of Ladies Fashions.

The discussion closed with a review of upcoming plans for the March and April meeting.

That's the ten-cent tour. Sorry you missed it.

March 25th is the next meeting. Please encourage as many as possible to attend as we will have room for 80! The RSVP is open:

We are hoping to end the March K.C. with a 'Walk About' town and we are looking for ideas:

April 8th meeting will follow that soon. The April meeting will hold a unique opportunity at the Norlands Living History Center. The RSVP for that gathering is also open:

Happy that you all survived

Happy that you all survived today's wild chill!
A little off topic, but this is my excuse for not making the kitchen conference today. My friends and I were all suited up in Confederate grey while shooting a documentary down in Gray Maine. Chad, who is majoring in media communications at Husson College, asked me to help him with his film project. Together with a quick script, two actors, and fifteen thousand dollars worth of digital video equipment, Chad, Josh, and I set off into the cold today to do a documetary/movie about a Confederate reenactor meeting a Confederate ghost in Gray, ME. At the end of the movie, the ghost tells the reenactor that the only way he can go to heaven is if at least one living soul will honor him and share the truth of why he fought and died.
We did not finish filming today because the weather was deadly cold. But we did run into Tom and Meadow Bassford at Dunkin Donuts. Nobody looked warm!
I hope to make the Lewiston KC. However, I don't know how welcome or safe you might feel walking around Lewiston in uniform. Lewiston has an interesting population...

Thank you Mike & Vicki

Thank you Mike & Vicki Pratt!

It was a great afternoon with good food, friends and discussions on our hobby. Looking forward to the March meeting.

Mike, you forgot the "Buttons Incident"!!!

If anyone does not have the books that Steve brought, they are a valuable resource and the soft covers can be found a very reasonable price. I also have a couple books by William C. Davis; "Fighting Men of the Civil War" and "The Commanders of the Civil War" which also has some nice pictures of uniforms, equipment, etc.

"the buttons

"the buttons incident"......Truly brought us all to tears on one level or another.
WE at the Pratt Estate, hope the young Lad will recover fully and one day still be able to sire children.
We should all pray for his swift recovery, as anyone who has had such an injury can all agree it truly is a tramatic experience..

Good gathering

I would like to thank Mike and Vicky for being fantastic hosts. The conference went very well. For those that didn't know...this was one of the first times Patti had done a presentation. A job well done.

Now a bit off topic but not really, You see a man approaching that appears to be an Officer. His rank insignia appears to be a crescent or a quarter moon. What is his actual rank? (Hint: It is an Army rank.)

A Fine Gathering!

Now that I've emerged from my coma I want to thank you all for coming. What a wonderful group of people we have, and I'm hoping that more folks will join us in the future because I really think that once we get our act together we're going to accomplish great things. The presenations were wonderful, thank you Steve and Miss Patti!

I, for one, will make sure that in the event that we gather once more at the Pratt estate, Button the gonad chomping dog will be sent to the babysitters!

Reflecting upon the conversations we had about military protocol...

I think it's about establishing rules within each group of what we expect from our members. I think that perhaps a good rule of thumb would be if you are wearing a uniform you ARE in character, which means you do salute and follow all other military rules. It's something I know our group needs to work on.

Mainly what I've learned is that I have a LOT to learn and I'm so pleased to have you fine folks as teachers and friends.

Thanks again for a wonderful day!

Y'all take care!

It was a wonderful time

My thanks to you Captain & Mrs. Pratt. It was a wonderful conference with a great deal of sharing & laughter. I'm amazed at the amount of information I don't know but I'm even more amazed at the amount I do. I was in a bit of a dither about the ladies fashion talk that I was volunteered for but I'm very pleased that it came off so well. Thanks in great part to Captain Pratt's forthought with port, brandy & cigars. Every time we get together like this we strengthen ourselves, our ties & our friendships.
But as for banishing Miss Button. You might want to reconsider. I've found a hat pin to be a wonderous motivator for my boys but I doubt you could beat the response time to the threat of a Button attack. My the things you could accomplish.
My regards to Pvt. Sweet.

The Southern lady is a breed

The Southern lady is a breed apart, outwardly chaste, but in private company the mask comes off, in Public with polite company she is gracious but do not cross her, then the spitfire inside is unleashed, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but comes in second to a southern lady fighting for a cause or an affont.
her love is deep as the sea, her fidelity iron.
If I was on the Market again, I would go south for my second wife, as I have been ruined by the Lure of southern Womanhood.

Seamus you sure talk purdy

Must be the influence of that Southern woman in your household.
And some people wonder why I bite when my husband's attacked.

Mike, I never said anything about a dog. I was merely speaking of a hatpin. I don't really know what Miss Vicky has been training her dog to do. In Button's defense though, she is just a baby and Barry was wearing dark pants. So you Federal boys might want to watch yourselves.
"Look, it's Miss Vicky & she has a new muff."
"That's no muff,it's Button!RUN!!!"

The secret is out!

Ah see, you found me out! I was horrified only because Button went after a fella in Gray!

I've secretly been training her to target those boys in blue. With that innocent little mop appearance she'll lure them in and then, DINNER TIME!

Now if Seamus walks a little funny from time to time you'll know I've been using him as a training dummy for Button! I'm also going to start trying out my hatpin defense on him... Miss Patti, what's the best spot for a proper hatpin poke? Poor Seamus, he needs to find me some playmates, or at least a crash test dummy!

Seamus DOES talk so purdy, don't he? It's why this poor little southern gal threw all good sense to the wind and married a Yankee boy! I'm shameless over Seamus!

The Missus

Now you know why I went Cotton pickin'

I've always found the best spot for a hatpin poke is square in the posterior. Gets their attention right off. But I don't think you'd want to do that to Seamus. Find yourself a nice plump blue behind to operate on. That'll kill two birds with one stone. Plus give poor Button a rest.
