We began our Christmas Celebrations yesterday and thought I'd start a post for some of our favorite things that may have been under the tree(s) for good little reenactors..

I had asked for a copy of the Echoes of Glory Series book "Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy" which Santa found a nice soft cover version (lightly used) off of Amazon. This was under the tree at Higher HQ's parent's home and I love it so far and can't wait to dig deeper. It'll definitely be a great resource of information to prepare for next season. I may order the other two books in the series now...

Merry Christmas!

My thanks to Santa

I recieved a lovely bonnet that strangely doesn't really go with my other gifts. I was given a wooden canteen, brown leather catridge box and a leather belt with a shiny new Georgia belt buckle. No I didn't get a muskett but I'm sure I'll be doing some drill with my boys this next season.
Oh CopperHead! You've got some catching up to do.
Hope everyone had a very merry holiday.

I got books... if only I could read them. Maybe Jason will read them to me...

It was a Jim Nelson Christmas at my house. I got:
* Reign of Iron about the Monitor and the Merrimack
* Glory in the Name about the Confederate Navy
* Thieves of Mercy about the civil war at sea

A very salty Christmas! thank God that I can swim!

Also,
I got a pair of Confederate trousers. Thanks to Jason and to the forgiveness of my wife. This was a gift from myself.

First off I would like to

First off I would like to thank Jesus for a wonderful and very special time I spent with my Mother, step Father, sister, brother, nephew and niece. Rebecca, my sister, and her two kids traveled all the way from North Carolina on a bus to be here and that was no easy task for her. My brother, Jed, came up from Lewiston. It was the first reunion I had with all three of us together in years.
I received some nice things as we all celebrated Jesus' birthday. A Beatles shirt and some new pants from my parents. This is the first year in several that I didn't receive any civil war items. Except for needing some blue wool for my infantry coat collars I think I am all set anyway.
Glad you all had a nice Christmas.

Cold Steel and Courage

My wife gave me a fantastic pewter scuplture by Andrew Chernak called "Cold Steel and Courage". It is three stacked rifles on top of a wooden base with a confederate flag embedded in the base. From the stacked arms hangs a cartridge box and canteen. It is simple yet the most beautiful statue I have ever seen.

I also got a red shirt and blue dress shirt to go with a confederate tie I purchased a couple years ago. The tie would not match any of my shirts so she, knowing I'm "fashion challenged" went out and found some matching shirts so I can proudly wear my tie to work.

It was a GREAT Christmas!

It's a "chick" thing

Trust me...
they gotta match....

Besides, I married a Maine Yankee (who is actually a tougher minded more cantankerous rebel than I could ever be)...and when she says they gotta match...I don't argue.

True....
