Just wanted to say Hi! I'm just a little lady reeanctor looking to find some more civilians reenactors in Maine. I am hoping to find some people to play with this spring/summer. I live in Sullivan (have lived in Maine only 3 years now). I don't know if there are any ladies near me who have or would like to start a ladies aide society, but it would be nice to get to know you all and hopefully meet some of you this coming season.
Thanks!
Rhonda Elvin

Hi Rhonda
Welcome to the Mainemilitia. I reenact with a few units. But I think you would find Miss Patti with the 29th GA a wonderful hostess if you reenact Confederate , you could also contact Mary at the 20th Maine if you are Union. If you need dresses or what ever please feel free to e-mail me as I am a seamstress. Take care hope to hear from you again. Hawks and Eagles Fly Like Doves CopperHeadAnnie
Welcome
Welcome Rhonda,
You can check the 29th out at: http://29thgeorgia.tripod.com/
Our page on this site is not complete yet, but soon...
Welcome Aboard Rhonda
Great to have you! I think you will find that there are a lot of great groups in the state. The ladies of the 3rd Maine would love to talk to you as well. Contact Carolyn or Kathy. They are wonderful ladies.

But seeing that you live in Sullivan I think you will find the events and activities of the 20th Maine and 29th Georgia closer to your geography.
So I take it that you have been on hiatus for your three years in Maine?
Feel free to join in the discussions here. I think you will find us a very social bunch. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Maine Milita
Welcome to the Maine Milita Board! Joining this board is a great start. Reading the posts and sharing your thoughts here has always worked for anyone who wants to get a feel of the different personalities, histories, and agendas of reenacting in Maine. Maine has the nicest little bunch of rebs and yanks in the country! Good luck!
Thanks!
thanks to everyone for the welcome! Mary from the 20th has been in touch with me which was a most welcome surprise! I might actually get to participate in some reenactments this coming season...yeah! I've been to one reenactment in the past 3 years (battle of aiken...and it's shameful but I think it was south carolina...or is that north???)Anyhow I would really appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction for resources...so I can learn about Maine during the mid 1800's so I can get educated about the area and what it and the people were like, what they were doing, etc. Thanks!
Copperhead Annie, I am a seamstress too...but my specialty is all the underpinnings. I do sew my own dresses but have never done that for someone else! :) I'm thinkin' to join up with the 20th if they will have me and hope to meet you sometime. I'll check out the 29th too and see what they are about. I started reenacting down in TN and I miss the south horribly especially this time of the year. I might email you and see what types of clothing you specialize in making.

Aiken
Aiken was also my first reenactment after moving back to the lower 48 (I lived in Alaska for 2 years) and I was very excited. It was a great little event...at least what I got to see of it. We got there friday night and mid saturday morning as I was checking out the sultery we had a big rain storm come in...there was no tornado spotted but I believe we experienced one of the down drafts that often proceeds the formation of a tornado OR it was a wind sheer...took the sulter tent I was taking refuge in. Stupidly I remember trying to grab the large wooden tent stakes/poles as they flew by my head...really not very bright. :) When it was all over all of sutler row was flattened...my unit headed home but I heard that the sulters stayed and dried their goods and the battle went on as planned. Wish I could have stayed.
Went to a reenactment in Tupelo Mississippi once and woke up in the night being told to "hold down the tent she's gonna go!!!" That was a lot of fun too! aaaaah the memories!

All the time I was there I
All the time I was there I never got to the battle of aiken, went to AH stevens state park for a "reenactment" but that was like going to the outer bumbleknob watermelon festival only more boring, but lived along the eastern edge of shermans pyro tour. would go down to the gin down in bartow to get coton seed to feed the cows or corn and would pass by several markers saying sherman did this or sherman did that, what was funny in the book the furies i belive a kent family chronical, some of my stomping grounds were mentioned in the book like ogeechee creek and or wrightboro and or louisville Ga.
Seamus
ps: actually wrightboro was not mentioned in that book, it was part of the setting of President Jimmy Carters Revwar era book "the hornets nest" which I lived near those settings as well.
