On Saturday, 22 October, 2005, The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center's Fall Festival took place in Livermore, Maine.

I had a grand time! The weather was beautiful for an October event. It got a bit nippy when the clouds hid the sun but drill took the edge off nicely.

The turn out for the Third Maine was good. I believe the military was 13 or 14 in number. The civilians were several. Three of our Confederates friends visited for the day and seemed to have a fine time socializing with everyone.

We did not use our gray friends in any sort of scenerio this time.

Unfortunately, the spectator turnout was low. People visited on and off throughout the day but there was never more than a dozen or so around us. I have no offical info on the total.

Capt. Gowen ran us through a series of battalion drills. Everyone worked hard and seemed to do pretty well. The day was ended with bayonet drill before breaking down camp and marching on.

Norlands After Action Report

It was a fine day, esp. after a series of washouts over the past month or so. Drills went well after the initial rust was kicked off. The only problems were beyond our control..very little public. Norlands also was forced to cancel about half of their planned activities for the day due to a lot of apparent no-shows (no dance caller, no hay rides, etc.). A pity, really, as this is one of the big fundraisers.

It was good to see Capt. Pratt, Capt. Cotton, Lt. Porter and Major Reeder from the "other side" in person, as opposed to the virtual realty of the forum.

good day

It was a good day to get out and do a meet and greet with everyone, dave , mike , mark , steve, matt, cotton, jason, scott, eric, tucker and all the rest of the folks ( id say susan and tom as well, as they are mine.) and lets not forget Carolyn and greg(?) I am so bad with names at times, and there are others who call be by name and I have no clue who they are...the price of internet fame (or infamy) Its nice to have an event that there is realy no pressure to kill someone for the public...and alas it didnt seem to have enough people to really do the few scenarios that we thought would be good, but theeres hope for the future...as I and I am sure others in oour group have a ball with the first person scenarios.... but the Anchent ones were a trip to visit and I have finally seen the famed "captured" battle flag, (how did that story go again? "oh look a flag on the ground, I guess i will pick it up and give it to someone....") though I was more impressed with the construction of the libary more than its contents...
It was a fun time and I hope to see you all again with the like circumstances, only with more spectators....

PRIMA NOCTA

Thanks to the Grey

Thanks again boys in Grey, espically with the lack of public, it was nice having some new faces to talk to! Even having Will and Jason share some knowlege with us, no matter how confused we all got was exciting too (fear not friends, it was not your fault, the 3rd is known for its handsome? faces and full toothed smiles not brains)! Thanks again to all, I hope we can do more co-op events in the future.

I, too, enjoyed seng my

I, too, enjoyed seeing my comrades from the 3rd again, as well as meeting face to face the folks I know from the board. The weather was great, I got to set up my new tent, which worked fine! and learned some new drill commands. Well, I heard them, anyway, if I didn't completely learn them. I do feel like I am making some small progress! Thanks for all the help that was freely and kindly given to keep me in formation with the rest of the fellows - if left to my own devices, I am sure I would have wandered off myself as "an army of one"!
