Just over a week ago the 29th GVI voted a general concensus to support the Haunted Fort no matter who is in the capacity of Director of Friends of Fort Knox. This was conveyed to the Friends yesterday.
During my visit I had heard a lot of about the struggles going on and it appears that the Fort is under seige. I won't go into details as it may do more hurt than good to talk about it. There appears to be an increase in vandalism to the Fort particuliarly the Friend's side of the Fort. So far nothing that isn't repairable.
Among the widely publicized problems, groups have been contacted and scared off from assisting with the venture. The Searsport HS Drama Club has cancelled due the highly political nature of the events going on.
The group that volunteers for the state side of the event providing security has boycotted. This is a very strange situation that I won't go into with details but supposely, they were suppose to be neutral in the situation, being that they are not connected with the Friends of Fort Knox.
Finally, there is word out that the "Opposition" (not my word) is attempting to put on another Haunted House to draw people away from the Fort. (This will actually be a blessing as there were so many people at the Fort last year)
With all the trouble it is not likely that the Haunted Fort will be go for two weekends but will be just the last weekend, unless more volunteers are had. So any one wanting to support the project, please get in touch with me a.s.a.p. Let me know which weekend you can support. At present, we will be fielding around 15-20 volunteers from this group but more are needed for all sorts of details from spookes to security.
As far as I am aware the Officer quarters will be open for our use with working fireplaces. If ever the Fort really needed support and assistance this is the time.
