[img_assist|fid=52|thumb=1|alt=Blue Angles at Brunswick Naval Air Station]I took my family to BNAS for the Air Show today. The Memphis Belle, a Corsair, odles of F-18's, A-10, P-3, KC-135, C-130, and many other aircraft were on display. The crowds, as expected, were huge. The Blue Angles, as always, were fantastic!
So, how was Greene for those who went?
How was the ball game for those who went to Livermore?
Ahh, good times. Good times!

Looks like a great airshow -
Looks like a great airshow - last time I saw the Angels was a couple of years ago, they put on a breathtaking show.
We have a nice turnout at the ball game, Matt Brey brought some friends which rounded out our roster to 10. We suffered heavy casualties and our effective strength, including walking wounded, was reduced somewhat by the end of the game.
The game itself - We jumped out to an early lead, however we suffered from lack of expertise in the tactics of 1860 baseball as the game - who ever heard of a "fair foul"?
Many well- struck and well-played balls thrilled the paying spectators. The referee was not intimidated by our muskets, but seemed to respond to the occasional coin pressed discreetly into his hand. (At least that was the only explaination I could think of for some of the calls.)
All in all, we gave them a good game, and I had a BLAST.
long day
Well Mike, I won't make this a AAR but here's what went on. Patti and I arose at 3AM to get ready for the event at Greene. We left the house at 4:30 to pick up Jim and then headed down to Brunswick to pick Catherine at the NAS. It kind of went like clockwork right on schedule. After picking up Catherine the real challenge was going to Green by memory of the map being that I did not have it with me. (Actually had not had one since June when I gave it to Maryanne of Regt QM) I managed to take the most direct route and again was right on schedule. The problem was that the town's directions were a bit poor but being in the right area helped.
We all pretty much arrived at the same time. We managed 7 military and 3 civilians. The parade was a hit with Sgt. Cheever carrying the colors on Steele. We didn't have a great distances to march by there was a steep grade that was a killer to climb.
We were pretty restricted on firing due to firemen games and a lifeline chopper that flew in. We saw maybe 8-10 folks pass through by noon. At 1 o'clock we did our firing demo and drill with maybe another dozen folks passing through. It was all finished up by 3PM and we were packed up and ready to go by 4:30.
Not a grand event but pleasant with a few interesting contacts. Coming back to BNAS was easy leaving would be more difficult. I decided to take the Thomas Pt Road to W.Bath and pick Rt 1 back to Brunswick rather than fight traffic. It was smooth sailing home from that point. We got back at about 8:30. From there it was 1.5 hours of sleep and off to work. Life is okay!

Thanks Tom and Will,
Thanks Tom and Will,
So is the ball game something you would like to see happen again Tom? As someone newer to this hobby how are you feeling about everything so far?
Good call on the Thomas Point Beach Rd, Will. I had a good plan that only required a little more walking. We parked near Sears at the shopping center and then walked through base housing and through the pedestrian gate seperating the housing from the base. It's probably a mile into the tarmac. My wife enjoys a good stretch of the legs so there were no complaints. We walked out faster than most people could drive. Then from the car onto Rt. 1 only took us a few minutes.
Sounds like another fine weekend in the Great State of Maine! Hope everyone's Sunday is as pleasant! And don't forget to take a moment for those lost four years ago. And for those who have sacrificed since then.

"So is the ball game something you would like to see happen again Tom?"
I am just a big baseball buff, I love every aspect of the game, so it was a lot of fun for me.
I think though, we would need increased commitment, if it weren't for the conscripts Matt pressed into service we would have been seriously short-handed. As it was, the 10 "hands" we had worked out just right.

I am having a ball.
mayport FLA
I was unable to attend the game at the norlands, or orwell or the AIRshow as I was in FLA for my brothers retirement ceremony. My brother Lee has spent 26 years in the navy, reached the rank of senior cheif and has been a few places and done a lot. It was a moving ceremony, between the passing of the flag and the comments of his mentors and his peers, and the departure of the cheif, going "Ashore" with the sideboys and the bo'suns pipe.
the ceremony was to be held on the Gettysburg, but due to the hurricane all the ships in mayport that could make steam had gone to sea. with only two frigates that were under repair left, the navy docks looked sparse,as the carrier group was gone. we stayed at the Navy lodge which was right on the beach and watched the surf come pounding in.
my two other brothers and I were up at 3:30-4:00 on sunday Sept 11, to get to the airport,Threat condition yellow, but seemed to pass through security fairly quick, our flight was at 7:20 and every thing was on schedulde, flying in to baltimore we passed over the Naval Academy, quite a sight from the air. flying by NYC on our way to manchester we actually were flying the reverse route of the terroists...from the air you can see how easy it was to navigate..Kinda spooky....quite a shock to the system to step off the plane with the temp in the 60s after being tin the hunid 80s in Fla.
It was a good time and an emotional one.
it gives you a sense of pride in our armed forces seeing what they do for us. having been in that Fraternity for only a short time, I come to miss that comradrie, and long for it again..hopefully the reenacting community can be that for me in the future.
