Despite early news of it's destruction, Beauvoir (last home of President Davis) is badly damaged but is intact. Here is a link to a photo inside the home with some information. You will need to stroll down to find it.

Some of you may remember about a year ago arsonist attempt to burn the place down but the fire did minor damage and was repaired.

Confederate Memorial Hall escaped with only minor damage. The real threat to both sites at the moment is looters.

Whew! That is very good

Whew! That is very good news, Captain. My heart goes out to all the victims down South, but I must admit my heart was first broken when I had previously thought that Beauvoir was destroyed. I wish that I could travel there and sit at its gate with my musket to keep looters away. I believe I would be terribly out gunned. However, an Enfield does look pretty intimidating. What do you say folks, who's for a little guard duty in Biloxi? ;-)
Thank you Cap't for that good news.

Other Museums in the path of Katrina

The History Channel discussion area had some news of other museums and historic sites in the path of Katrina.

I particularly like that, "about 18 members of the staff and their families rode out the hurricane inside the battleship, as members have done voluntarily since Camille in 1969." She's reporting a slight list to port but I can't imagine a safer place to ride out a Category 5 Hurricane!
