Troy NY Event

Andy Danish's picture

[img_assist|fid=41|thumb=1|alt=Troy NY photo] We had an excellent time last weekend, if you didn't count the rain Friday night & Saturday morning. We ended up with 120 re-enactors attending.
We had upwards of 1500 spectators over the course of the event and even made the evening news on all three local channels.
The 2nd VT Light ended up a bit short of people, so the Navy fell in to man the gun. Let's just say we all had a "blast" !

Thank God for the Navy!

Hey if you can't bring your launch or your ironclad then I guess manning a gun is the next best thing, huh?

Navy Gun Crew

The 2nd VT's Napoleon is a bit on the small side for the Navy.
Now something in the 8 to 15 inch range would be better.

We were just lucky and honored to be able to work with the 2nd VT.
They're good people.

Preferred on a Gun Run

You might be right Andy, But I've read the story of the Royal Navy at Ladysmith during Boer War and other feats of excersize involving a Field Gun Run. I think I should prefer a small field piece over offloading and transporting overland a regular naval piece.

For anyone who does not know of what I speak then check out the link below. I'm just sorry I never saw one of these competitions.

Ouch !

I've seen this event.
It was televised a few years ago.
IT IS NOT FOR THE WEAK !!

During the Civil War, the Navy used a 12 lb
boat howitzer which weighed in at about
1000 pounds, carridge and all. The carridge
was made of wrought iron with a third wheel
attached to the trail to make it easier to be
hauled by the gun crew.

Steam Launch

Eric,
We had a great time.
Lots of spectators, lots of free food and lots
of friends you only see once a year.

No, Carl couldn't make it. One of his steam boat
friends passed away and he had to be at the service.

He did say he planned on making it next year.

Andy
