Welcome everyone. I do hope the transition for everyone goes smoothly. If not then feel free to contact me.
Speaking of contact. In your profile, which you can reach by clicking on the My Account link after you login, about three quarters of the way down the page you will find a section entitled "Contact settings". Your email address is not made public anywhere on this site. However, if you wish to allow others to contact you then you should put a check in the box for "Personal contact form" and then all the way at the bottom click Submit to save this change. Then an extra tab will appear when fellow members are viewing your profile that says Contact. When this is filled out and submitted the system will send an email straight to your email. Be sure to keep you email address up-to-date in the system.
Also of note at the bottom of your Account Profile is an alternate theme called "slash_black". The theme "mainemilitia01" is the primary theme of this site and the one I will focus on if I decide to change anything. However, one of our users accesses via WebTV and WebTV does not support CSS-only Layouts, it supports table layouts, which is in "slash_black". Currently there are some slight differences in info presented between the two themes. I will try to rectify this but I would prefer you use "mainemilitia01" if at all possible.
And lastly about your profile, when entering your unit membership, please try to use the same spelling as everyone else in your group. I have added some common unit examples to the form. If you are a leader amongst these groups and would like another phrase then let me know. The idea of everyone using the same spelling and abbreviation is that they can be grouped together for other purposes later on. A simple example of this right now is in the member list. Click on a unit name and you will see everyone in the unit who is registered. Click on a town from the member list and see everyone in that Town.
I have a far more intricate level of user control with this system. As such, all registered users have access to the forum by default. Non-registered or non-logged in users can only read. Some of you will be contacted by me in regards to other levels.
For instance, I would like to explore some of you contributing to a web log or blog. This could be your experiences reencting, or news from around the hobby or history or the State of Maine. Posting info about up coming events into a calendar, photos and galleries, or adding links to the directory could be done as well. If you are interested in exploring this then please feel free to email me.
I guess that is enough for now. Welcome aboard!

Sounds interesting Mike and
Sounds interesting Mike and best of luck. If I become a blogger will that count as journalist experience? lol
Will
Volunteering?
Journalistic experience? I think that raises an interesting question Will. If amateur journalist is a possibility then yes, I think it does qualify.
Are you volunteering to try it out for me?
Blog ON
The Blog sounds like a good idea, but beware of what may end up there!
How about a page where us novelist wannabe's can try out our stuff? Like short stories, or the further adventures of Silas and Micah? Maybe some macabre stuff like Ambrose Bierce put out? I recommend separate places for Poetry and Stories. Just like sitting around the campfire, spinning a yarn or two.
The thought just occurred to me that someone could start the first three paragraphs of a story, someone else write the next three, etc. Each subsequent trio of paragraphs has to build on the previous ones...keeping the order of the story going forward...No comments or critiques in between...just continuous story. And the person who wrote three paragraphs must wait until someone else writes his or her three before contributing again.
I'm just making this up as I go here, but it has some potential. We'll have to keep the subject matter to the Civil War or thereabouts...keep it clean of course...maybe you could come up with some other guidelines.
writin' 'n' stuff
Actually, your idea about one person starting the story and others contributing to it to keep it moving forward is what the fantasy series of "Thieves World" books was based on in 1978. One author started the story with a chapter & then it was sent to another author who added a chapter & sent it to the next guy. It's a really neat read, what with all the different writing styles and ideas. I like the idea of having a "creative corner", it could be fun. For what it's worth the only rules for Thieve's World were you couldn't kill a major charector (but you could do anything else nasty to them) and you couldn't "undo" anything that had been done by another author (like implying the last chapter had been a dream).

Sure I'll Volunteer
I am not sure what I am in for but we'll find out sure enough. I'll take the leap and volunteer Mike.
Meanwhile to start Chapter III of the on going saga...
Some where in the dust of time a long lost tale of Civil War Re-enactors is found. It is a complex story of a band of brothers who don't quite see eye to eye but struggle for a common goal and the love of history. There was the Rebels on the grey side and the evil empire of yankees on the dark side. (anyone sense biases?) And then there were the Civilians!!!! The scariest bunch of all! All decked out in hoop skirts and frying pans with intentions in their hearts no soldier would dare to imagine.....
Greetings
Just wanted to say Hi and to wish Mike a wild ride with his new forum.

Interesting idea Rod. At this time, the Forum may be better for this rolling tale than a blog. Why don't you start a new topic, set the rules and try this out. I'm game.
My idea of some of you blogging is a way to share your personal views and experiences, after action reports, or resent research discoveries you wish to share with the world. I currently have commenting turned off for Blogs but could turn it on. I thought blogs might be more of a news and stories place. Allowing the forum to be more rough and tumble.
Will, click on Create Content and you will see some additional options that were not there previously. You could use this for an easy place to post info for the 29th Georgia or such as well. The categories available need to be fleshed out. I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for everyone's support...
Interesting Alien
Craig, I noticed you have a blue skinned alien instead of a grey skinned one. Was this just by chance?
Mike, I'll check it out. Maybe I'll be able to report something blog worthy after tomorrows event in Dover-Foxcroft.

Re-enactor List
Mike,
Here's an idea but not certain if it is worthwhile and there are diffinitely pros and cons to it. What about compiling a list of reenactors and contacts. We do this in a way by signing up but there are guys (and gals) that don't sign up who are worthwhile contact for things. In addition, it give awareness of the many different groups out there. It could be useful for matching a name to a unit in some cases.

Re-enactor List discussion moved
Hey Will, I created a new topic to disucss this idea. I think it's worth talking about but wanted to seperate it from this rambling.

Hardtack Alien
Hey Craig, is that what happens to a Yankee who experiments too much with his hardtack recipe? Or did an old sack coat fall into the stew? :)

The blue guy
Doc,
Is that what happens when you take too much of your "blue mass"?
Don't worry
Nah, nothing so dramatic. With too much blue mass you just get uncontrolable drooling, uncontrolable diahrea, tooth loss and rotting of the soft palette (upper part) of the mouth.
But you don't turn blue so it's OK. I mean, that would be disturbing...
Keep taking your blue mass!!

Union Alien
Will,
The blue alien is a Union one. The 3rd Maine has been accepting volunteers form the far reaches of this galaxy. It is the same place that Doc Scroggins gets his blue mass pills.

Shhh
Geez Craig, way to go. I mean, it's hard enough getting the guys to take their blue mass now, if they knew it was really alien bodily waste matter from these little blue guys I'd never get them to.....wait a minute... this isn't an e-mail is it... Aw crap, I gotta erase this before someone see's it. Now which button is the erase...
