Genealogists take notice! With the passing by the Maine Legislature of HP1177 back in June, the hunt is now underway for the identities of the families of all the men from Maine who marched north in 1839 to prepare and defend our nation during the Aroostook War.

For those who missed it, and I certainly did, our very busy and productive Maine state legislature passed a resolution to request that The President of the United States and the United States Congress award the designation of "Veteran's of the United States and the State of Maine" upon the defenders of our northeastern border.

Read the entire resolution here.

Maine Genealogical Society is looking for help in researching some of these individuals.

Of course, if you have forgotten what the Aroostook War was all about then read the Wikipedia article for a refresher.
