MaineMilitia.com turns 10

Ten years ago this week, I bought my second domain name, MaineMilitia.com, and this site was born. It has certainly changed a lot over that time. But somethings have always been the same. MaineMilitia.com has always been a way for me to combine several of my passions together into one hobby. My love of Maine and it's grand history, all the great experiences I've had in the hobby of Civil War reenacting, and communication in all it's modern and technological forms.

How strong are you?

I'm curious how strong my network is? If you don't mind, would you please send an email to your friends, post to your Facebook or MySpace page, retweet on Twitter or to other social networks that...

The Battle at Fort Knox will be held on July 23-25, 2010 in Prospect, ME.

http://ftknox.mainemilitia.com/

I bet Miss Rose that I could get a 1000 more visitors to the website this month than last month. You don't want me to lose do you?

How strong is your network of friends? Will they share the link to the Battle at Fort Knox website for you?

Looking for donations

But not of money!

I need your outstanding photos!

I need any video you've shot at events, especially Fort Knox!

I need your help!

I'm working on making some promotional pieces for a soon to be announced website in connection with an event you may or may not be familiar with. So, if you have some great photos of Civil War living history or just of a visit to Fort Knox and you don't mind allowing me to re-publish, re-purpose or alter for 'the cause' then please let me know.

If you are a graphic artist, or videographer, either amatuer or professional and would like to offer your talents on supporting 'the cause', I'd love to hear from you too!

Site Updated

I updated to Drupal 6.14 and all contrib modules overnight.

If anyone finds anything broken or not working like before then please let me know. I've tested most of the main features but not everything.

Thanks,

Dear, Dear Sister~   I trust this finds you well. I know Mother is enjoying your visit. Is Father still as he was when I was there last?

The sun has finally begun to shine here and in Maine. How wonderful to feel His warmth upon my face again. I am with hope that the gardens may be saved. There are still areas under water.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin at LibriVox.org

I spend a great deal of time in my car everyday and rarely find anything on the radio worth listening to. So I listen to a great many podcasts and audio books. Being as cheap as I am these days, I only listen to free audio books. I'm currently listening to "Uncle Tom’s Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe, as read by John Greenman and published at LibriVox.org.

Such Feindish Rage and Savage Cruelty

If you don't believe I've been redeemed
God's gonna trouble the water
I want you to follow him on down to Jordan stream
(I said) My God's gonna trouble the water
You know chilly water is dark and cold
(I know my) God's gonna trouble the water
You know it chills my body but not my soul
(I said my) God's gonna trouble the water

Letters to and from home

June 7, 1864

My dear Lt. Anderson,

I trust this finds you well and enjoying the new weather we have had as of late. I am not certain if you received my last letter thanking you for the package you sent me. I have not had a chance to enjoy everything in it, but will soon.

I am beside myself as posting letters has been a bit of a strain these weeks past. I have been busier than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs and short of paper and ink.

Rememberance day 2009

Dear Sister~

The shadow is growing ever darker here with Father. Mother says he had a close call one day last week before my return, but doc was able to bring him around. Perhaps my going north for the few days was not such a good idea afterall. He is holding his own, but since my return, once again I am not known to him.
