Greetings and thank you for your interest in our group. The Twenty-ninth Georgia is the oldest Confederate Living History Re-enactment unit in the State of Maine. It primarily began as an off shoot of the Twentieth Maine Infantry Company B in the summer of 1986 but incorporated as a separate non-profit organization in 1989.

Its membership is open to any person interested in portraying the lives of the Southern people during the time of the late unpleasantness, some call it the Civil War. We strongly encourage the military impression for men but we welcome other impressions with considerations. We do require members to be above the age of 13 to carry a musket and 16 or older to be able to fire in the ranks.

We try to portray the common soldier from Georgia. While we portray all of the time periods of the war, our core focus is late 1863 in the Army of Tennessee. We do have a contingent of Civilians (mostly women) who portray the common widows, wives and sweethearts. Some of these women folk make up a local militia group known as the Nancy Harts. In addition, we have an artillery detachment known as Cotton’s Battery.

The group does a balance of in state and out of state events. Most of the in state events are of a living history nature. It is necessary to go out of state for Battle reenactments. Some of the events include school and college presentations, public encampments and parades. The highlight of our Maine events is our encampments at Fort Knox.
